Tabbed terminal behavior and related enhancements can be added to rxvt-unicode through a Perl extension. urxvt-tabbedex-git is for users customizing urxvt with tab management.
Terminal extensions run inside the terminal process. Review plugin source and configuration because extensions can affect keyboard handling, command launching, URLs, and terminal state.
