§ About
About linux-meta
Early-stage project (v0.1 · early access). We're building, in public, a metadata layer for Linux packages — age ratings, translations, privacy signals. Most of what exists today is redistribution of upstream data with canonicalization and preparation of complete snapshots for local reuse. Original project work is still small and documented below.
Mission
Build an open metadata layer for the Linux ecosystem — starting with age ratings and translated descriptions. Everything CC0, auditable, consumable by any distribution.
Values
Honesty about what we ship today · Provenance on every data point · Independence from companies and governments · Accessibility is mandatory · Privacy by design.
Governance
Independent project. The public governance page is live at /governanca and still evolving. Decisions are made by the maintainer with input from contributors on GitHub until the formal structure is complete.
Origin
Project started in 2026 out of a discussion about recent age-rating laws for digital content in several countries. Instead of waiting, we decided to build the missing open infrastructure. Work is still early-stage — collaboration and criticism welcome.
Real project state
Exact metrics computed live from the database. We separate redistribution (imported) from project work (ai/human):
What we don't do yet
- We do not offer an API as a product. The focus is complete snapshots for download and local reuse.
- No active human reviewers yet. All in-house classifications are AI-generated and pending review.
- No financial report published yet. First report will be issued after the first effective semester of operation.
- No formal partnerships with distributions, NGOs or public bodies. We are open to conversations.
- No seal, certification or registered trademark. Everything we offer is the open catalog and public snapshots.
