UTF-8 text can be converted to many 7-bit ASCII approximations and back again from command-line tools. uni2ascii is useful for scripts, legacy systems, and text-cleanup workflows.
Verify output when meaning or names matter. Transliteration can lose accents, change identifiers, alter search results, and damage data if applied blindly to source files or records.
