Description

Unknown file types can be identified by comparing binary signatures against the TrID definition database. This terminal utility helps users inspect files whose extensions are missing, misleading, or not enough to determine the format.

Run `trid` on files you want to inspect, and use `update-trid-defs` or the installed timer to refresh definitions when needed. It reads file contents for identification but does not repair or convert them.
