Shared codebases can bridge Python 2 and Python 3 differences with compatibility helpers. Six helps libraries handle strings, imports, metaclasses, iterators, and moved modules across versions.
It is imported by applications and dependencies, not opened directly. New projects should prefer Python 3-only code when possible.
