Legacy PHP 5.6 applications can access mailboxes through IMAP and related mail protocols. This is useful for old webmail systems, ticket importers, mailbox processors, and migration tools.
It is a mail-access extension for obsolete PHP. Mailboxes contain private messages and credentials, so TLS, server trust, authentication storage, and attachment handling should be reviewed.
