Description
Legacy KDE4 applications can use a common multimedia layer for audio and video playback instead of talking directly to each backend. This keeps older desktop software working on systems that still need KDE4-era components.
It is a runtime framework and dependency, not a media player. Most users install it because another application requires it; new software should normally use current multimedia stacks instead of KDE4-era Phonon Qt4.
