Description

Audio devices can be driven through the Open Sound System architecture instead of newer Linux audio stacks. It is useful mainly for legacy applications, specific hardware support, or systems that intentionally use OSSv4.

Audio subsystems affect device access, mixing, permissions, and application compatibility. Avoid replacing a working audio stack unless the hardware or workflow requires OSS.
