Scalar finite-element problems in one or two dimensions can be solved from Octave. This helps students and engineers prototype simple FEM models without moving to a larger simulation suite.
It is a scientific-computing extension. Numerical results depend on the model, mesh, boundary conditions, and validation by the user.
