Text files can be edited in a cross-platform editor built from the current development source. It is useful when you want a general text editor and specifically need the newer git version rather than a stable release.
The package is for writing and editing local text, code, or notes depending on the editor features available upstream. Development builds can change behavior more often, so prefer the stable package when predictability matters.
