System awk behavior can be redirected so /usr/bin/awk points to nawk. It is useful only for users or scripts that specifically need nawk semantics as the default awk implementation.
Changing a system symlink can affect many scripts. Confirm compatibility before installing and be prepared to restore the previous awk provider if automation breaks.
