Multicast traffic can be proxied between network interfaces for IGMP and MLD, helping routers or gateways forward group traffic where a full multicast routing setup is unnecessary. It is useful for IPTV, lab networks, and controlled multicast distribution.
This is infrastructure software and can affect network behavior for other users. Configure it only on networks you administer, and verify interface, firewall, and routing settings before leaving it running.
