External modules can be built against the stable mainline XanMod kernel using matching headers and build scripts. It is useful for DKMS drivers, virtualization modules, and hardware support that must compile for this exact kernel family.
Headers do not boot the system by themselves. They should match the installed kernel version, otherwise external modules may fail after updates.
