The HDF-EOS5 is a software library designed built on HDF5 to support the same Grid/Point/Swath functionality in HDF-EOS 2 and to the extent possible it will be built with the same calling sequences as the original HDF-EOS 2 library.

Earth-observation Grid, Point, and Swath data can be handled through the HDF-EOS5 library built on HDF5.
It is useful for scientists and developers working with modern HDF-EOS data while preserving familiar HDF-EOS2-style calling patterns where possible. Correct analysis still depends on metadata, geolocation, projection, and product documentation.
