Description
Legacy GNOME applications gain access to virtual file locations through the older GNOME VFS layer. It was used for file browsing across local paths, network locations, and desktop-integrated backends before newer systems replaced it.
Most users need it only for old applications. It is not a modern file manager, and new software should use current file APIs instead of relying on this deprecated stack.
