Real-time communication systems can use a self-hosted STUN and TURN server to help clients traverse NAT and relay media traffic when direct paths fail.
This is network server infrastructure. TURN relays can move significant traffic and be abused if open, so authentication, quotas, firewall rules, and monitoring matter.
