Manages file-system metadata for CephFS so clients can browse directories, permissions, and file layout in a distributed Ceph file system. It is needed by administrators who serve CephFS, not by systems using only object or block storage.
Metadata servers affect file-system availability and performance. Plan active and standby daemons, memory use, client load, and recovery behavior before changing production CephFS services.
