Monitoring data can be collected faster for Cacti with a dedicated poller. It is useful for administrators monitoring many devices or metrics where the default polling path is too slow.
This is backend monitoring infrastructure, not a dashboard by itself. It can contact network devices and collect operational data, so credentials, SNMP access, and retention settings should be protected.
