Btrfs duplicate extents can be deduplicated in the background on a best-effort basis. It is useful for users with repeated data, snapshots, or backup trees who want to reduce disk usage.
Background deduplication touches filesystem data continuously. Keep backups, monitor resource use, and test on non-critical data before trusting it on important volumes.
