Legacy 32-bit GTK2 applications can render themes that depend on the Murrine engine. It helps older apps match desktop themes that use glossy, glass-like, or custom GTK2 styling.
Theme engines change appearance only and are loaded by GTK2 applications. Some modern desktops may no longer use GTK2 theming consistently.
